Poetry

I’ve always loved reading poetry, but until January of 2019 I’d never really spent much time trying to develop my own skill in the form. What follows are my early attempts, out there for the world to see, read, and critique.

I believe it’s good for creatives to share their experiments with others, regardless of whether or not those experiments are successful. One of the formative experiences in my own writing career was reading an early draft of Brandon Sanderson’s Warbreaker. It’s one of those things I’d previously known intellectually, but hadn’t truly internalized — every writer’s first draft is unpolished and rough.

Which is all to say, don’t judge me too harshly, dear reader. These are early drafts of my experiments in poetry, published here for the sole purpose of sharing my own creative development with those interested.

I apologize

This morning
I forgot to hate you.
We can try again tomorrow
If you’d like.
